Random characters or passphrase — which is stronger?

Both can be equally strong if they have the same entropy. A 5-word EFF passphrase has ~64 bits of entropy and is far easier to type and remember than a 12-char mixed password.

How is randomness generated?

Via crypto.getRandomValues() — the browser's cryptographically secure RNG, the same source used to generate TLS keys. There's no pseudo-random math.random() involved.

Is the password sent anywhere?

No. Generation happens in your browser; nothing is transmitted, logged or stored. We never see the passwords.

Should I reuse a strong password across sites?

Never. Use a password manager to generate and store a unique password per site — one breach then can't cascade.

How long should my password be?
